Our training programs for posterior MIS offer spine surgeons an opportunity to learn current MIS techniques in an anatomical lab setting. Introductory and advanced programs are available to meet the participant’s specific training need and to provide continuous learning opportunities in the area of MIS. All training programs include case presentations, didactic teaching, and hands-on lab sessions.
Concepts in MIS
Concepts in MIS is designed for spine surgeons who have little or no experience with MIS procedures, and have an interest in adding MIS techniques to their armamentarium.
Program Overview & Format
The format of this course consists of a full day of hands-on cadaver workshops, supplemented by lectures from an experienced surgeon faculty. Topics covered during this course include:
- Minimally Invasive Disectomy & Decompression
- Minimally Invasive TLIF
- Percutaneous Transpedicular Fixation
- Management of Potential Complications in MIS
- Minimally Invasive Vertebral Body Augmentation
Advanced Concepts in MIS
The Advanced Techniques in MIS program is designed for experienced surgeons who are familiar with MIS procedures, but who would like to learn new techniques and advance their expertise.
Program Overview & Format
- Learn and discuss advanced applications of Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery
- Interact and exchange ideas with colleagues who share an interest in advancing MIS techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring a recent or upcoming MIS case to discuss
- Learn from experienced faculty who have extensive working knowledge of minimally invasive techniques
- Participate in group discussions and observe surgical demonstration
Advanced Concepts Tutorial
The Advanced MIS Tutorial program offers surgeons a unique opportunity to visit thought leaders in minimally invasive spine surgery. A one-and-a-half day visitation includes a group dinner with the host surgeon(s), live surgery observation, and a hands-on cadaveric bioskills lab.
Recommended Criteria for Attending Advanced Programs
We strongly recommend that surgeons who wish to attend our advanced course offerings fulfill the following criteria:
- Previously attended an Introductory (Current Concepts) MIS program
- 1+ years experience or 25+ cases/year using percutaneous screw placement
- 1+ years experience or 50+ cases/year MIS microdiscs or fusions
- Practice is in part dedicated to treating complex spine
- Interested in treating complex spine through MIS approach
- Interested in the expanding indications of MIS within their practice
